Star Clipper

I will be signing copies of The Law of Superheroes and answering all of your comic book legal questions tomorrow, November 3rd, at Star Clipper in St. Louis from noon til 3pm.  Star Clipper is my Local Comic Store, so I’m really looking forward to it!

NYCC Recap

We are back from New York Comic Con!  Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth or attended our panel and signing.  Thanks especially to everyone who bought a copy of the book!  We had a great time doing the panel.  We opened it up to Q&A pretty quickly and had a non-stop stream of fantastic questions from the audience.  If we couldn’t get to your question or if you thought of more, please email us at james@lawandthemultiverse.com and ryan@lawandthemultiverse.com.

The audience at our NYCC panel

Our fantastic fans!

After the panel we had a chance to meet several of our regular readers and commenters as well as some people who heard of us for the first time at the con.  Special shout out to Linda, Martha, David, Danny, Andrew, and Ken!

The rest of the con was also great.  We met several comic book writers and artists whose work we’ve discussed here, including Mark Waid (current author of Daredevil), Paolo Rivera (the artist and cover artist for several issues of Daredevil), Dan Slott (who did a fantastic run of She-Hulk), Comfort Love and Adam Withers (the team behind The Uniques), Tom King (author of A Once Crowded Sky), and more!  We also picked up a lot of great comics to write about. We also met part of the team at Broadcast Thought, a group of forensic psychiatrists who have done some really insightful thinking about comics.  We expect to see some big things from them in the future!

While in New York we also recorded an interview with Marketplace and appeared in the The New York Times (for the second time).  We have more exciting announcements planned, so stay tuned!

NYCC

This is another reminder that we will be giving a talk at New York Comic Con from 5:00-5:45 this Friday at the Unbound Stage.  Afterward we’ll be autographing copies of our book (which will be available for purchase at the convention) from 6:15-7:15 at autographing table 4.

From 10am-noon and 3:30-4:30 at the Penguin Group booth we will be giving in-character “legal advice” to anyone who comes by in costume (i.e. advice for the fictional character, not for you).  That’s booth #921, which is not far from the DC Entertainment booth (here’s a map).  We hope to see you there!

New York Comic Con Update

Just a reminder: Ryan and I will be speaking at New York Comic Con next week, Friday October 12 from 5pm-5:45pm with a book signing to follow from 6:15-7:15.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the convention.  Three and four-day passes are all sold out, but tickets for Friday are still available as of this writing.  In the last two years all of the tickets have sold out before the event, so don’t wait!

Hendrix College

I’m happy to announce that I will be giving a talk about Law and the Multiverse and our upcoming book, The Law of Superheroes, at my undergraduate alma mater, Hendrix College, on November 13 at 4:10pm at Mills Library.  The event is open to the public and will be followed by a book signing.

New York Comic Con Update

Ryan and I will be giving a talk about our upcoming book, The Law of Superheroes, at New York Comic Con at 5pm on Friday October 12th.  Single day tickets as well as multi-day passes are available.  We should have more information about the rest of the convention (e.g. book signings) soon.  We hope to see you there!

New York Comic Con

You may have heard about a little event in San Diego this week, but the real news is that we’re attending this year’s New York Comic Con!  We will be promoting our book, which will be released on the first day of the con, and we have also pitched some panel appearances.  We also have something special planned for anyone in a comic book character costume: a free “legal consultation” for your character!  We will have more information for you as we get closer to the event, and we hope to see you there!

NOLHGA Annual Legal Seminar

We’re happy to announce that Ryan and I will be speaking at the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations20th Annual Legal Seminar, July 26-27 in Boston.  The program includes many fantastic speakers, and we’re excited to be among them.  We’ll be giving a talk on legal ethics using examples drawn from superhero attorneys such as Daredevil, She-Hulk, and Manhunter.  And on that note, can anyone recommend a good comic book store in the Back Bay area to check out while we’re in town?

Law and the Multiverse CLE Reminder

We have two new live CLE courses coming up, courtesy of Thomson West: What Superheroes and Comic Books Can Teach Us About Constitutional Law today, May 23rd at 1PM Eastern and Real-Life Superheroes in the World of Criminal Law on May 30th, also at 1PM Eastern.  CLE accreditation is available in most states.  Last year’s CLE courses were a big hit, so we hope you’ll join us again this year!  Remember to use promo code MULTIVERSE30 for 30% off!

Law and the Multiverse CLE

For the attorneys in the audience: Thomson West has invited us back to give two new CLE webcasts!  On May 23rd we will be presenting a program on constitutional law issues.  Topics include warrantless GPS tracking, warrantless use of advanced surveillance equipment, mask laws and the First Amendment, civil rights issues, and double jeopardy.  And on May 30th there will be a program on real-world superheroes and criminal law.  Be sure to use promo code MULTIVERSE30 for a 30% discount!

Our programs from last year on ethics and torts are also still available online.
